WASHINGTON, May 2, 2013 – Today, the Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) announces the appointment of Peng-Sheng Chen, MD, FHRS, as the new editor-in-chief of HeartRhythm, the official journal of HRS. Effective January 2014, Dr. Chen will replace Douglas Zipes, MD, FHRS, who will have served as editor-in-chief for ten years after founding the Journal in 2004. Currently, Dr. Chen is the Professor of Medicine, Director of the Krannert Institute of Cardiology and the Division of Cardiology, and Medtronic-Zipes Chair in Cardiology at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana. Additionally, Dr. Chen is an associate editor on the HeartRhythm editorial board and has served on the Journal’s editorial board since 2005.
Dr. Chen received his medical degree from National Taiwan University, completed his residencies at the University of Texas Southwestern and was a cardiology fellow at Duke University Medical Center. Prior to joining the Krannert Institute of Cardiology in 2007, Dr. Chen was the Pauline and Harold Price Chair of Cardiac Electrophysiology Research at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles where he also acted as the director of the section of electrophysiology and electrocardiography, and co-director of the Cardiovascular Intervention Center in the division of cardiology.

Dr. Chen’s research has contributed to the understanding of the mechanisms of cardiac fibrillation, defibrillation and the importance of the autonomic nervous system in cardiac arrhythmogenesis. He has published more than 250 peer-reviewed articles and has been studying cardiovascular diseases for over 25 years.

His recent work on the Journal’s editorial board has provided him a strong foundation and the insight needed to continue to uphold its integrity,” said Anne M.
