Drake named Spectranetics' CEO
Spectranetics has appointed Scott Drake as president and CEO, effective Aug. 10.

Drake joined Spectranetics from DaVita, a developer of kidney care and dialysis products, where he held the position of senior vice president of operations since November 2009.

Previously, Drake held several leadership positions within various healthcare business units at Covidien over the course of his 17 years there:
  • From 2006 to 2009, Drake was global business unit president of respiratory and monitoring technologies, a $1.5 billion business with 8,000 employees;
  • From 2003 to 2006, he was president of Valleylab (recently renamed Energy-Based Devices), a $375 million surgical device business; and
  • From 2001 to 2003, he was vice president and general manager of critical care, a $150 million business unit.
