Edwards launches trial for aortic valve system
Edwards Lifesciences has launched the TRITON clinical study in Europe for its minimally invasive aortic valve surgery system, Project Odyssey.

Project Odyssey—equipped with a delivery and attachment system—is a valve platform that facilitates faster procedure times, shorter patient times during cardiopulmonary bypass and smaller incisions, Edwards said.

According to the Irvine, Calif.-based company, the system allows surgeons to deploy a heart valve in a minimally invasive manner rather than using the traditional suture-based approach.

According to Edwards, design for Project Odyssey is based on the Carpentier-Edwards Perimount Magna Ease tissue heart valve. The TRITON study is now actively enrolling patients at several European sites.
