Despite congressional efforts to delay Affordable Care Act implementation, the Health Insurance Marketplaces, where individuals and groups (or families) can find, compare, choose and buy private health insurance, officially opened in all 50 states and the District of Columbia on Oct. 1, as scheduled.

Enrollment runs through March 31, 2014 with coverage starting on Jan. 1, 2014. States can have a State Based Exchange, Federally Facilitated Exchange or a Partnership Exchange. To see your state’s decision for creating a marketplace, click here.

All plans sold on the marketplaces must meet minimum requirements and must cover 10 categories of essential benefits. Ensure your practice is ready to respond to general marketplace inquiries by patients. Learn more on CardioSource.org and review a recent ACC webinar.
