Bangor medical center, cardiology group merge

Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC) and Northeast Cardiology Associates, both of Bangor, Maine, have completed an agreement to integrate the cardiology practice into EMMC’s Heart Center.

The merger took almost two years, according to Robert Hoffmann, MD, executive medical director and lead cardiologist of EMMC Northeast Cardiology Associates, and is expected to better prepare them to meet the challenges of healthcare reform. James Raczek, MD, EEMC’s senior vice president of operations and chief medical officer, added that the merger will improve efficiency and access and help attract cardiologists to the region.

EMMC is a 411-bed medical center with a medical staff of more than 300 physicians. Northeast Cardiology Associates has 16 cardiovascular specialists.
