The American Medical Association (AMA) appointed cardiologists to lead two of its committees, the organization announced on April 17.
Kenneth P. Brin, MD, PhD, a cardiologist and vice president of medical informatics at Advocate Medical Group in Illinois, will chair the 17-member Current Procedural Terminology Editorial Panel. The panel maintains the code, which physicians and other healthcare professionals use to report medical procedures and services for health insurance programs.
Peter Smith, MD, a professor and chief of cardiothoracic surgery at Duke University in Durham, N.C., will chair the AMA/Specialty Society Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) that includes 31 physicians and 300 medical advisers. The committee recommends physician services and resources and develops relative value recommendations to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
