Before heading off to ACC.15, Yair Briman, general manager of healthcare IT with Philips Healthcare, answered a few questions about the conference for Cardiovascular Business.

CVB: What trends to you see in the cardiovascular care field?

Briman: The cardiovascular care field, like the healthcare industry overall, is undergoing a digital, personal-health revolution to meet the increasing burden of chronic health conditions, such as cardiovascular disease. Specifically, there’s a move toward the consumerization and personalization of the clinician/patient management relationship to enable more efficient diagnosis and treatment and empower patients to take a more active role in their own health. At the same time, there is a shift toward interoperability and collaboration through the use of cloud-based data platforms that increase efficiency to cut costs and deliver high-quality care to more patients.

What is Philips unveiling, or focusing on, at ACC.15?

Briman: Philips will be launching the IntelliSpace Cardiovascular image and information management solution (CVIS), which provides cardiologists with advanced diagnostics and analytics for a holistic view of the patient’s journey across the cardiovascular service line. Jeroen Tas, CEO of healthcare informatics, solutions and services at Philips, will also share the Philips vision on the role big data will play in the future of cardiology.

How will IntelliSpace Cardiovascular improve patient care and/or change practice management?

Briman: By aggregating patient information across the cardiovascular service line, IntelliSpace Cardiovascular helps facilitate a streamlined workflow and improve patient care. The new solution allows all care team members to view the patient’s complete cardiovascular care history spanning diagnosis, treatment and therapy, fostering collaboration and potentially eliminating unnecessary and repetitive tests. In particular, IntelliSpace Cardiovascular serves as a layer of interoperability that provides all care team members with access to data and a holistic overview of the patient journey across the health continuum, allowing them to improve their diagnostic confidence and deliver more effective care.
