Thomas R. Frieden, MD, former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is launching a global health initiative to address cardiovascular disease and epidemic preparedness.
The initiative, called Resolve and announced Sept. 12 in New York, will use $225 million over five years from Bloomberg Philanthropies ($100 million), the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative ($75 million) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation ($50 million).
By focusing on sodium reduction, eliminating trans fats and controlling blood pressure, Frieden believes Resolve can save 100 million lives, according to The New York Times.
