Medtronic has signed a deal to operate the catheterization and electrophysiology laboratories at the University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center in Cleveland.
As many as 10 Medtronic employees will work in nonclinical roles at the Medical Center but will not be involved in making clinical decisions, according to a Minneapolis Star Tribune report.
Medtronic manages catheterization laboratories and operating rooms in more than 100 hospitals worldwide, but the company said in a news release that this was the first agreement in the U.S.
“Our collaboration with Medtronic gives us a unique opportunity to learn from their international best practices in inventory management and scheduling optimization,” Jeffrey Peters, MD, chief operating officer at the University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, said in a news release. “We are excited to embed their expertise into our clinical operations, allowing our clinical staff to focus on providing the highest level of cardiovascular care for our patients.”
