Heart transplantation centers have significant risks to consider when donors test positive for COVID-19, according to new research published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

Bruce Wilkoff, MD, director of cardiac pacing and tachyarrhythmia devices at Cleveland Clinic, said the new device could be "an important advancement for heart failure patients."

Interventional cardiologists in Detroit developed the new technique with a specific patient in mind. One specialist described it as an "exciting breakthrough."

“I was ready to make out my will, so this came along just at the right time,” the 76-year-old patient said.
