WASHINGTON, D.C.—Principal Investigator Martin B. Leon, MD, reviews the outcomes of PARTNER (Placement of AoRTic TraNscathetER Valve Trial), the first U.S. clinical trial to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) technique with the Edwards Lifesciences Sapien valve. Results will be presented Thursday, Sept. 22 as a late-breaking clinical trial at the annual Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) conference. Based on the results, Leon recommends its approval for use with patients with aortic stenosis, who are not surgical candidates.
