Medtronic and Volcano have entered into an alliance to provide interventional cardiologists, cardiac cath lab managers and cardiovascular service line directors a combined product offering that addresses the clinical needs in coronary artery disease.

According to a press release from both companies, the alliance provides U.S. clinicians access to each company’s technologies, including Medtronic’s guidewires, balloon catheters, bare-metal and drug-eluting stents, and Volcano’s suite of intravascular ultrasound imaging technology and functional management tools that facilitate endovascular procedures and guide therapies.

Under the terms of the agreement, Medtronic and Volcano will collaborate when developing contract technologies with hospital customers in the U.S.

This arrangement will help hospitals reduce their capital upfront costs, said the Minneapolis-based Medtronic and the San Diego-based Volcano, and provide hospitals with their technologies and equipment through one point of access.
