Two hospitals in Maryland recently filed petitions in court to overturn the state’s approval of a cardiac surgery program at Anne Arundel Medical Center, the Capital Gazette reports.
Baltimore Washington Medical Center and Dimension Healthcare System, which are both affiliates of the University of Maryland Medical Systems, filed separate petitions this month, according to the newspaper.
The hospitals are seeking the judge to review the Maryland Health Care Commission’s decision in March to approve the program at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
The Capital Gazette wrote that Baltimore Washington Medical Center submitted an application for an open heart surgery program more than two years ago, but a reviewer recommended that the commission deny the hospital’s request. At the same time, the reviewer recommended that the commission approve Anne Arundel Medical Center’s application.
