FDA approves Rebel bare-metal stent

The FDA approved Boston Scientific’s Rebel stent system for treating patients with coronary artery disease. The bare-metal stent consists of a platinum chromium alloy and uses the same design as the company’s Promus Premier stent.

According to Boston Scientific, the alloy provides radial strength and resistance to fractures along with low recoil. The Rebel stent and delivery system offers the same deliverability as Promus Premier drug-eluting stent.

It is available in 46 sizes with diameters from 2.25 mm to 4.50 mm and lengths of 8 mm to 32 mm on a Monorail platform. 

The Rebel stent and delivery system received CE mark in February.
