CHICAGO—David J. Cohen, MD, director of cardiovascular research at St. Luke's MidAmerica Heart Institute in Kansas City, Mo., discusses the positive quality-of-life data for patients with aortic stenosis who are not suitable candidates for surgery, based on a substudy of the PARTNER trial.

Cohen also speaks to how the transcatheter aortic valve implantation technique will translate into real-life clinical practice, outside of the rigorous patient selection process of the PARTNER trial. He hypothesizes how cost-effective the technique could be, if approved in the U.S., based on the European data and the new cost-effective PARTNER substudy that he and his colleagues are undertaking.
