Sunday, March 14, 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM Dr. David Blumenthal, national coordinator for Health IT, has had a busy year, primarily working with other governmental agencies to help implement provisions in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 that deal with defining and funding the adoption of EHRs. In December, he announced the long-awaited interim definition of “meaningful use,” which describes who is eligible for stimulus dollars, as well as the necessary functions of the EHR for a facility or practice to be considered eligible by CMS for funding.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has added new information to the Hospital Compare Web site that reports how frequently patients return to a hospital after being discharged, as a possible indicator of how well the facility did the first time around.
