A meta-analysis of nearly 80,000 patients published in the Nov. 17 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology adds to a growing body of research seeking to evaluate and understand possible sex differences associated with antiplatelet therapies. This analysis found it to be effective in reducing cardiovascular events in both men and women with no statistically significant sex differences in terms of expected clinical benefit or increased harm.
The one-year survival of elderly patients with acute MI complicated by cardiogenic shock undergoing PCI using contemporary techniques was comparable with survival of younger patients, according to a study published in the February issue of JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions.

Women may have a slightly higher risk of death than men in the 30 days following an acute coronary syndrome (ACS), but the difference appears attributable to factors such as severity and type of ACS, clinical differences and angiographic severity, according to a study in the August 26 issue of Journal of the American Medical Association.
